Choosing a 6th Form…
Choosing an institution to study A Level courses is not an easy task. There are
so many things to consider over and above the subjects you are interested in. This
prospectus will give you some answers and make it easier for you to take the right
steps towards greater opportunities.
How to choose the subjects to study…
Choosing the right subjects is never easy! Sometimes you need to base it on what
you like to specialise in later on in life. However, most of the times you need
to pick the subjects that you could enjoy…never choose a subject because your friend
is doing it or you happen to like the class room or the teacher that teaches it!
If you are in doubt, speak to someone who could advise you – your tutors or relatives
could be best placed to help you.
The right combination
The LEA 6th Form makes things easy for you. You do not have to stress yourself out
trying to work out which combination to choose so that you get to do the courses
you need for the specialism you want to dedicate to at your higher studies. All
you need to do is the following:
-
Choose four AS level subjects (depending on what
higher studies you want to pursue); and
-
Four Islamic Sciences subjects (including
one Classical Arabic unit)
It’s as simple as that! For the second year however,
you can choose to drop an AS level subject and continue with the three and/or choose
a new fourth AS subject or continue with all four subjects that you studied in the
first year.
Entry requirements
Most subjects of AS level does not have a pre-requisite
apart from the standard entry criteria that LEA 6th form has set. However, if you
want to do AS Mathematics, you will need to have at least B in GCSE Mathematics.
This would apply to Science, English and other core subjects as well. It is always
useful for you to consult with admission tutors in regards to issues to consider
before making choices.
The standard entry criteria for access to the LEA 6th form
are the following:
6 or more GCSEs at A*-C;
Able to read Qur’an fluently;
Knowledge of Islamic Sciences subjects (at level
2)*;
Knowledge of Arabic language:
written and spoken (at level 2)*;
*Levels are determined by LEA internal assessment.
If however you do not meet particular requirements and would still like to pursue
with courses at LEA 6th Form, please do not hesitate to discuss this with an admissions
tutor before making the final decision.
